The slightly crooked scan
A page poorly placed on the glass, a document photographed handheld: a few degrees of tilt is enough to tire the reader and spoil an otherwise clean document. Deskewing measures the angle and corrects it page by page.
The tool identifies dominant lines — text lines, table edges, margins — derives the tilt angle, then rotates the content to cancel it. On well-contrasted text, the correction is precise to a tenth of a degree.
Honest limits
Blurry or dark photos — indiscernible lines prevent detection.
Very graphic layouts — posters or pages without dominant lines may be misestimated.
Extreme tilts — beyond a few degrees, the problem calls for an explicit rotation instead.
After deskewing
The content frame has rotated: a pass through cropping tightens the margins that appeared at the corners — for a clean final document.
Application portals, visa files, supporting documents: how to get a PDF under 500 KB with target-size compression — and what to do when the limit is honestly unreachable.
"Maximum file size: 1 MB" is the most common upload threshold. How to get a PDF under it with target-size compression — in the browser, no upload — and what to do when 1 MB is honestly too small.
A portal demands "one single PDF under 2 MB"? Merging does not compress — here is the right merge-then-compress sequence to stay under the cap, and the honest exits when 2 MB is not enough.
