Why merge PDFs without uploading?
Merging multiple PDF files into a single document is one of the most common operations: assembling a CV and cover letter, combining contracts, or putting together a complete dossier. Most online services require you to send your files to their servers. This raises a privacy concern: your documents travel over the internet, are stored temporarily, and you have no guarantee they are actually deleted.
Document Flare offers a different approach: merging happens entirely in your browser, with no upload. Your files never leave your device.
How to merge your PDFs with Document Flare
The process is simple and requires no account or installation:
- Open the merge tool from the Document Flare tools workspace. No registration required.
- Select your PDF files by dragging them into the drop zone, or by clicking to choose them. You can add as many files as needed.
- Reorder the files if needed. The file order determines the page order in the final PDF.
- Start the merge. Processing happens locally in your browser via a Web Worker. You can cancel at any time.
- Download the result. A new PDF file is generated, containing all pages from your documents in the chosen order. The source files are not modified.
Benefits of local processing
Local processing offers several guarantees that cloud services cannot provide:
- Absolute privacy: your documents never transit through any server. No copy is retained.
- Speed: no upload time or queue. Merging happens at the speed of your device.
- Offline operation: once the page is loaded, you can work without an internet connection.
- No artificial limits: no file quota or maximum size imposed by a server.
Limitations to know
Local processing depends on your device’s resources. On a modern computer, merging a dozen PDFs of a few megabytes takes less than a second. On an older device or mobile, processing time may be longer. If you experience slowdown, close other tabs and try again.
Merging preserves pages as-is: it does not modify content, renumber pages, or merge metadata. Each PDF retains its original properties in the final document.

Are my files sent over the internet?
No. All processing happens in your browser. You can verify this by opening the developer tools (Network tab): no request contains the content of your files.
Can I merge password-protected PDFs?
Password-protected PDFs cannot be merged without unlocking. Unlock them first with a dedicated tool, then merge the resulting files.
Does the merged PDF retain quality?
Yes. Merging assembles pages without recompression. The visual quality is identical to the source files.
Can I reorder pages after merging?
Yes. Use the ‘Reorder pages’ tool in Document Flare to change the page order of the merged PDF, still locally.
